Harley-Davidson Renewed Vintage Style

This summer I found myself geared up for a 4540 mile putt sporting some new retro styles by Harley-Davidson for a trial run. I wound my way up and back down the east coast from the Sunshine State to Salem, Mass and onto the land of “Live Free or Die” and a U-Turn thru the Green Mountain state before making the pilgrimage to Woodstock in Bethel, NY and then rolling back down to York, PA.

I took the Steel Toe Tour at the H-D York Operations Center, with a side trip to pick up the cuz and heading back south to the SmokeOut via the Blue Ridge Parkway. From North Carolina, headed over to see friends in Maryville, TN and then onto Jack Daniels Distillery where I happened to plant one on Goose! From Lynchburg, headed south for a Vouja De experience in Alabama (relived from my 2005 jaunt to Sturgis) and onto Rome, GA to home on 27. Definitely in the top 5 ever!

Since helmets are mandatory in some states, one must comply even if your belief is as mine: “Let those who ride decide.” So, I COMPLIED with the state regs WHERE required, and sported this pretty badass lookin’ HELMET!

The new Cherohala B01 3/4 Helmet brought out by Harley-Davidson in their 1903 Collection has brought vintage back to life. This Helmet, manufactured by Bell for Harley-Davidson, reminds one of the old buckets from long ago, like the one sitting on my closet shelf that I haven’t worn in years.

Sported this helmet on the way up to Laconia in the mandatory helmet law states, and have to say that in 90 degree Georgia weather, it wasn’t worse for the wear than any other skid lid one has to wear while rolling thru that state. I found the helmet to be lighter and a little cooler in temperature than some 3/4 retro style helmets of old and the newer reproductions. This one weighs 2 lbs 10 oz.

It is made of a Fiberglass Shell that has custom graphics that are unique to every helmet – the distressed look carries over from the graphics to the cowhide leather trim. Snaps are intact for shield and visors. It has a Double D Ring chin strap with a snap.

There is also a back goggle strap proudly marked with DOT, so yes, this helmet meets DOT Safety Standard FMVSS218.

Since the temperature varied so much on this trip, have to say the jacket brought along for its virgin run definitely passed the test. Some days it was 40 degrees and some days it was 90 degrees; literally, this is THE only way to describe the variety of weather over those 2 weeks. That, and minimal precipitation or that thing we know as “RAIN”. Was lucky enough to only pass thru a spritz of drizzle twice on the trip and this waterproof jacket was perfect without having to break out raingear.

The great feature about this jacket is the double zipper-up front which helps really prevent more water coming in thru the front interior zipper storm flap.

The jacket is the Women’s Worden Triple Vent System Riding Jacket Number 98165-18VW from Harley-Davidson.

This jacket has three zipper releases on each side that open to expose a polyester mesh that makes cooling down easy as the temp increases during the day.

Early am riding in the mountains usually always is in cooler temps and this jacket is perfect because you can make minor adjustments to assimilate into the warmer atmospheric temperature that increases as the day progresses. Breathable is one word to describe the functionality of this jacket. It really made for many miles of comfortable riding.

Also of note is piping that is 3M™Scotchlite™Reflective Material that increases your visibility when lighting conditions aren’t the greatest. Every bit of “brightness” helps!

You can check out this jacket online:

The Jacket is available in multiple sizes from Petite to 3XL and retails for $295.00.

It definitely helped to keep the journey “long and enjoyable”!

This jacket is made from 600 denier 100% polyester canvas body with cowhide leather. Polyester mesh body lining, and polyester mesh and polyester taffeta sleeve lining.

**No polyesters were harmed in the making of this jacket**

Can’t say as much for the cows!
