Technically this is a continuance of one of the things I have learned in 65 years of riding. Staying cool on a bagger can be a challenge. Yes, I have tried all the things we all read about staying cool and hydrated, and they do work, but most have some limitations.

When we rode to Sturgis in 2016, I did use these methods and Harley-Davidson’s Hydration Vest and it did help, but with high temperatures, not for as long as I wanted. I stopped between scheduled gas stops to soak in cold water and re-activate.

A couple of times I got so hot I actually had to stop, because I did not feel safe on the blistering road.

A couple of weeks before the trip this year I got a press release about Harley’s NEW Dual Cooling Vest and Kit. I ended up getting one to test and am happy I did.

Harley describes the Dual Cooling Vest & Cooling Kit – Part Number- 98186-17VM/000L – as being designed with stretch panels for a close fit; the lightweight hydration vest features an embedded HyperKewl lining that absorbs water when given a quick soak (1-2 minutes). It slowly evaporates for a cooling effect that lasts 1-2 hours.

For greater cooling the inserts are laid flat in a fridge, freezer or cooler with ice water for a minimum of 45 minutes and then slipped into the inside pockets of the vest and should cool for 2-3 hours.

The amount of time the vest and cooling inserts will work will depend on actual exterior temperatures.

All of this comes in a handy insulated tote bag and even leaves some room for ice and bottled water.

The weather in Florida was in the High 90s with a heat index in the three digit mark on the day Dee and I left her house. We did get an early start to roll as many miles out of town as we could before the temperature climbed.

I had the cooling packs in the refrigerator earlier and just before leaving put them in the tote with the vest and a bag of ice cubes.

By our first stop it was warm enough to put the vest on and it did what it was supposed to do. The ice cubes melted, so the vest absorbed the cold water.

By the next stop it was HOT and I inserted the Cool Packs. WOW what a difference. I made it through the hottest part of the day without any problems.

I did use the vest and cool packs a few more times during the ride to Sturgis and back to Florida with excellent results.

Okay, Fall may be here, but you might want to think kit about this for next summer (or a Christmas gift notion).

We got back to Florida just in time to prepare for “IRMA” and no power plus all the other things that came with it.

THAT'S WHY YOU ARE GETTING THIS ARTICLE NOW. BETTER LATE THAN WAITING TO NEXT SMMER AND IT GETTING LOST IN COMPUTER LAND – LOL
